5 Tips to Overcome
Decision Fatigue

Save your brain energy for what truly matters.

Did you know that an average adult makes about 35,000 decisions a day? From the moment we wake up and decide whether to hit the snooze button, our brain starts consuming energy. By the time evening rolls around, we often feel mentally exhausted—a state known as 'Decision Fatigue.'

1. Make Important Decisions in the Morning

Your willpower and mental clarity are at their peak right after you wake up. Use this 'Golden Time' for complex tasks or major life choices. Leave routine chores or trivial decisions for later in the day.

2. Automate Repetitive Choices

Successful people like Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg are famous for wearing the same outfit every day. This isn't just about fashion; it's about eliminating one more decision from their day. You can do the same by planning your weekly meals or setting a consistent morning routine.

3. Use the '2-Minute Rule'

If a decision or task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. Don't waste energy overthinking it or putting it on your to-do list. Deciding to 'decide later' is also a mental burden.

4. Limit Your Options

The 'Paradox of Choice' explains that having too many options leads to anxiety rather than freedom. When shopping or picking a restaurant, narrow your choices down to three before making the final call. Fewer options mean less stress.

5. Don't Aim for Perfection

Good enough is often better than perfect. 'Satisficers' (people who choose the first option that meets their criteria) are generally happier than 'Maximizers' (those who exhaustively search for the absolute best). Trust your intuition and move on.
